Guides
Jargon explained simply.
SEO, GEO, hosting, domain: every term is explained here in one to three sentences, so anyone can understand it.
- 301 redirect

- Ad

- Ad budget
- The money spent on ads. You pay it directly to Google or Meta, so you see exactly where every euro goes.
- AI search
- A search that does not just show a list of links but writes a ready-made answer and names its sources, for example ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google’s answers.
- App Store and Google Play
- The two stores where people download apps for iPhone (App Store) and Android phones (Google Play).
- Automation
- Recurring tasks run by themselves, for example reminders, replies or reports. You decide beforehand what may happen automatically.
- Backlink
- A link from another website to yours. For Google it is like a recommendation: the better the recommending site, the more it counts.
- Backup
- A copy of your website that is saved regularly so it can be back online quickly after a problem.
- Booking system
- A calendar on your website in which guests see free dates and book. Booked dates cannot be given out twice.
- Branding

- Call to action (CTA)

- Conversion (enquiry or booking)
- The moment a visitor does something useful for you: enquires, calls, books. A good website makes that step easy.
- CRM (customer management)
- A program in which all customers and enquiries are collected with their history.
- Digitalization
- Paper, phone calls and spreadsheets are replaced by clear digital workflows: enquiries, appointments, quotes and invoices.
- Direct booking
- The guest books directly with you on your website, not through a booking portal. That way the contact with the guest stays with you.
- Domain (web address)
- The address of your website, for example your-company.me. It is like your business’s phone number on the internet: it belongs to you and is paid for yearly.
- GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
- The work of making AI searches such as ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google find your business and name it correctly. GEO builds on SEO.
- Google Business Profile
- Your entry on Google Maps and in search, with address, opening hours, phone, photos and reviews. The profile itself is free at Google.
- Hero area
- The first screen of a website, which visitors see before they scroll. This is where they decide whether to stay.
- Hosting
- The place on the internet where your website and email live so they are available around the clock. With every Alavija website, the first year of hosting is included.

- Keyword (search term)

- Maintenance
- Regular care of your website: updates, backups, monitoring and small changes so it runs safely and stays current.

- The company behind Instagram and Facebook. “Meta ads” means ads on those two networks.
- Mobile first
- A website is designed for the smartphone first and then for tablet and computer.
- Multilingual

- A contract in which both sides promise not to pass on details of a project.
- QR code
- A square pattern you scan with your phone camera that opens a web page directly, for example your menu.
- Reach
- How many people have seen your posts or ads. Reach alone is not revenue, which is why we look at enquiries.
- Reel / short video
- A short vertical video shown on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or YouTube Shorts. Usually 15 to 60 seconds long.
- Relaunch
- An existing website is rebuilt. What matters: the old addresses must point to the new ones, otherwise Google hits and links are lost.
- Responsive (mobile view)
- The website adapts automatically to the screen size and looks just as good on a phone as on a computer. We build for the phone first because most visitors are there.
- SEO (search engine optimization)
- The work of making Google understand your website better and show it more often. It is not a trick but regular work on technology, content and trust.
- Social media
- Networks such as Instagram, TikTok and Facebook where businesses share posts, reels and stories and get in touch with customers.
- SSL / HTTPS
- The encryption between visitor and website. You recognise it by the padlock in the address bar. Without it, browsers warn people about your site.
- Structured data
- Extra details in the background of your website that programs can read, for example business name, services and opening hours. People do not see them, search engines and AI searches do.
- Target audience
- The people you want to reach, for example by place, age and interests.
- Update
- A new version of the software behind your website. Updates close security holes and keep everything current.
